Eurasian Media Forum in Astana to tackle East-West news issues at April session

ASTANA. KAZINFORM Kazakhstan will welcome politicians, academics and senior journalists to its capital, Astana, on 24-25 April to examine the hottest issues on the East-West news scene at the 12th annual Eurasian Media Forum (EAMF).

Ukraine, Syria and Iran will all be on the agenda for debate at the Palace of Independence, along with regional and social questions. In its dozen years, the Forum has acquired a reputation as a unique venue for serious analysis of the most challenging developments of our times and how they are handled by the media, the EAMF official website informs.

This year the themes include the new world order and its divisions, the clash of ambitions in Ukraine, the Syrian conflict, Iran's nuclear programme, Eurasian integration, etc. Last year the Forum was attended by around 600 delegates from 46 countries. The event was covered by over 350 local and foreign journalists.

Commenting on the importance of the Forum, President Nursultan Nazarbayev of Kazakhstan said: "In the eleven years since its establishment, the Eurasian Media Forum has become a unique venue for an exchange of opinions between politicians, experts and the media community. I want to particularly stress the contribution of the Forum to further Eurasian integration. Given globalisation, the significance and efficient impact of a broad discussion of the pressing issues faced in Eurasia and the world are becoming more pronounced..."
