EU-Customs Union cooperation prospects discussed

MINSK. September 21. KAZINFORM Deputy Chairman of the Belarusian State Customs Committee Sergei Borisyuk met with Klaas van der Tempel, Special Representative for the Eastern Partnership of the Foreign Ministry of the Netherlands, to discuss the prospects of cooperation between the European Union and the Customs Union, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian State Customs Committee.

Accoridng to BelTA, at the meeting the parties agreed that the Customs Union raises the role of Belarus as a transit country between the European Union and Asia. Klaas van der Tempel asked how the legal framework changed and whether trade and transit flows increased after the formation of the Customs Union.

Klaas van der Tempel said that Belarus has become the first country which he visited in the capacity of the Special Representative for the Eastern Partnership. He hopes to promote cooperation with Belarus.

Klaas van der Tempel was told about the eagerness to promote the joint project of Belarusian and Ukrainian customs services to facilitate the exchange of information on the movement of goods within the framework of the flagship initiative "Integrated border management of the Eastern Partnership." At the end of the meeting the parties praised the constructive dialogue and readiness to expand cooperation.
