Endangered snow leopard caught on trap camera again
A snow leopard, listed as endangered, has been captured on camera once again in the Altyn-Emel National Park, Kazinform News Agency cites the Forestry and Wildlife Committee of the Ministry of Ecology.
As part of research, staff from the Science, Information, and Monitoring Department of the Altyn-Emel National Park set up camera traps in key watering areas. The cameras captured rare footage of the snow leopard, which is included in Kazakhstan's Red Book.
“The presence of the snow leopard signifies healthy conditions for wildlife conservation and confirms the success of the park’s conservation efforts,” said the Forestry and Wildlife Committee.
Ongoing monitoring is being conducted as part of the country’s state environmental protection program.
Recall that on January 30, residents of Ushbulak village in the Zhetysu region spotted rare footage of a snow leopard (Irbis) cub.
As reported earlier, an Indian porcupine, a species listed in Kazakhstan’s Red Book, was captured on a cellphone camera in the Ile-Alatau State National Park for the first time.
