It took Rosolino Cannio 58 minutes to cross the narrowest part of the strait, measuring some 3.1 km (1.9 miles). He was accompanied by a boat with a guide who helped him to avoid dangerous currents.

Cannio said he now plans to cross the Strait of Gibraltar, which separates Europe and Africa, and measures over 14 km (8.7 miles) at its narrowest point, Kazinform cites RIA Novosti. See www.en.rian.ru for full version.
