VIENNA. February 18. KAZINFORM /Timur Bekturganov/ Efficient cooperation with the Parliamentary Assembly of the OSCE is a pledge of our successful chairmanship in the Organization. OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Secretary of State-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Kanat Saudabayev said it delivering a speech at a joint session of the OSCE PA Committees in Vienna today.
In this view he noted importance Kazakhstan attaches to successful holding of the Trans-Asian parliamentary forum scheduled for May 14-16 in Almaty. "It will become one of the largest events in our country within Kazakhstan's chairmanship in the Organization", Saudabayev stressed.
In his speech the OSCE Chairman-in-Office emphasized the role of the parliamentarians in advancement of the political dialogue among the member countries. "You not only take part in discussions and debates at various forums and platforms but also make a significant contribution to solution of the most urgent problems", K. Saudabayev said addressing the participants of the meeting.
250 parliamentarians from 53 member-countries of the OSCE have arrived to Vienna for the two-day Winter meeting of the OSCE PA being held February 18-19 in Hofburg Congress Center. Three General Committees are to work within the meeting. Issues of policy and security, economy, science, technologies, environment, democracy, human rights and humanitarian issues will be in spotlight of the sessions. Tomorrow, February 19, at a general session of all three Committees special debates regarding the Afghan situation will take place.
OSCE Secretary General Marc Perrin de Brichambaut, President of the OSCE PA Joao Soares and Head of the National Council of Austria Barbara Prammer are expected to participate in the event. The Kazakh delegation of parliamentarians is headed by Senate Speaker, Vice President of the OSCE Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev.
