Astana to build eco-towns and new social facilities as part of urban area development
Kazakhstan has been designing a single urban planning policy integrating the development plans of the capital and Akmola region, Kazinform News Agency cites the press service of the Kazakh government.
The comprehensive plan of development of Astana urban area for 2024-28 was under discussion at today’s government session.
According to deputy prime minister – national economy minister Nurlan Baibazarov, the Kazakh capital’s population is to rise 46% over the next 10 years. According to the forecast, its population will stand at 2.3 million people by 2035.
As for territorial development, development of a single urban planning policy and adjustment of administrative borders of settlements are planned.
A 1,200-sit school, a 280-place kindergarten and a 350-bed general hospital are to be built in Kosshy town. A mining engineering college for 900 students and a children’s rehabilitation center are slated for construction in the capital, said Baibazarov.
A number of social facilities, including nine culture houses and a primary care center, in rural areas, eco-towns, residential buildings with premises for small business on the area of over 940 ha are set to be built as part of the urban area development.
