EBRD to grant over EUR 1.6 mln for Akbulak program's implementation in Kazakhstan

ASTANA. May 21. KAZINFORM /Kanat Kulshmanov/ The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development will grant EUR 1 mln 650 thousand for implementation of Kazakhstan's Akbulak water supply and sewage disposal program.

A corresponding memorandum was signed today by First Vice Prime Minister Umirzak Shukeyev, Director of the EBRD Department for Municipal Infrastructure Jean-Patrick Marquet, heads of the Agency for Natural Monopolies Regulation and the Agency for Housing, Utilities and Infrastructure, akimats of Atyrau, Taraz and Semey cities.

"In accordance with the document, the EBRD will finance development of a detailed feasibility study of the project of water supply system in Taraz, Atyrau and Semey cities where the priority directions of investment activity and the project's estimated costs will be defined", U. Shukeyev said.

The EBRD will provide a considerable package of technical support for joint financing the preparation of PPP projects in the abovementioned cities.

If the Board of Directors approves the project the Bank will consider the issue of granting about USD 100 mln for those PPP projects which fully meet all requirements.

According to Shukeyev, 2011-2020 Akbulak program was developed on the President's instruction and aims at increasing investment attractiveness of water resources management sector and involvement of private capital into it.
