EBRD to finance Aktau osmotic plant modernization project

According to the press service of Caspiy Social-Entrepreneurial Corporation, the document was signed by Head of the regional administration for energy and utilities Sapar Amanbekov, acting Chairman of Board of Caspiy Social-Entrepreneurial Corporation Yergali Kayupov, Mayor of Aktau Ospan Kazakhbayev and Senior banker of ERDB department for municipal and environmental infrastructure Ekaterina Miroshnik.

To date Mangystau region has been recognized one of the potential pilot areas for implementation of a local development program under the EBRD's financial support.

Air and water quality, water supply and wastewater services, solid waste management, environmental protection, industrial pollution, energy use, pollution of the Caspian Sea are the key issues for Mangystau region.

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development hugely contributes to the solution of these problems. The akimat of the region together with the Bank works on attraction of investments in development and functioning of the housing and utilities sectors.

Today, taking into consideration the scales of expansion of the city of Aktau under the Earth-Sea-Sky mega project and Forced Industrialization Program, the city faces necessity of systematic provision of drinking water to Aktau and the adjacent areas. Therefore, the project on modernization of the Aktau osmotic plant will solve the problem of clean water supply in the region. Besides, the project will create good conditions for attraction of investments, implementation of new technologies, reduction of tariffs etc.

In accordance with the project, the osmotic plant will be connected to the water supply system and a new water reservoir will be built.
