Dushanbe held conference on Kazakhstan's contribution to strengthening nuclear-nonproliferation regime

ASTANA. August 17. KAZINFORM The Embassy of Kazakhstan in Tajikistan and the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Agency of the Tajik Academy of Sciences have organized a roundtable devoted to the International Day against Nuclear Tests.

Representatives of the ministries and departments of Tajikistan, scientific and public organizations, mass media gathered for the event.

Taking the floor, Ambassador of Kazakhstan Abutalip Akhmetov informed the attendees of Kazakhstan's initiative on announcement of August 29 the International Day against Nuclear Tests which had been supported by the UN General Assembly. The Diplomat briefed about the history of the nuclear testing site, the activity of Nevada-Semipalatinsk movement and the contribution of independent Kazakhstan to strengthening nuclear non-proliferation regime.

At the conference the Tajik side proposed to establish seismic monitoring in Central Asia.

The guests were demonstrated a photo-exposition devoted to Semipalatinsk nuclear testing site, the consequences of nuclear tests on the territory of Kazakhstan and cooperation of Kazakhstan with the IAEA.
