Decision on establishing a multinational nuclear fuel bank to be announced in 2-3 months - IAEA
ASTANA. October 12. KAZINFORM /Muratbek Makulbekov/ The decision on establishing a multinational nuclear fuel bank under IAEA control will be announced in two or three months, IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano told a press conference at the Astana Palace of Independence.
"Kazakhstan and the IAEA have a very good relationship. We are considering the prospects of cooperation in production of low-enriched uranium and, therefore, establishing necessary facilities in Kazakhstan," Amano said.
He explained that currently the IAEA established a working group to examine the technical aspects of the location of the bank of low-enriched uranium in the country. In addition, Amano said that Kazakhstan should join one of seven regional groups of the IAEA to promote its proposals.
In April 2010 Kazakhstan proposed to host the international nuclear fuel bank.
