Death toll from Ukraine coalmine accidents reach 24
DONETSK. July 30. KAZINFORM The death toll from the two recent accidents at coalmines in Ukraine has reached 24, a spokesman for the Ukrainian Emergencies Ministry said on Saturday; Kazinform refers to Itar-Tass.
Rescuers have found the dead body of one more victim of the Friday methane explosion at the Sukhodolskaya mine in the Lugansk region. Thus, the death toll from this accident reached 18. Two miners were rescued. They were hospitalized in critical condition. Eight more are still missing.
Another accident was reported at the Bazhanov mine in the settlement of Makeyevka, where a 70-meter-tall elevator collapsed burying 15 miners. By Saturday morning, four miners were rescued and six dead bodies were recovered from under the debris. Five miners are missing.
Government commissions were set up to investigate into the accidents.
