Day of Memory and Sorrow observed in Moscow, other cities
MOSCOW. June 22. KAZINFORM Numerous actions, devoted to one of the most tragic dates in Russia's history - the beginning of the Great Patriotic War - will be held in Moscow and other Russian cities on Monday; Kazinform refers to Itar-Tass.
At 04.00, a.m., some 2,000 schoolchildren and college students - members of patriotic organisation - are going to form a line-up in the Alexander Park together with war veterans. A Minute of Silence will be held. Only the voice of Yuri Levitan will be heard, who reported in June of 1941 that "Nazi invaders treacherously attacked the Soviet Union."
Starting from 10.00, flowers and mourning wreaths will be laid at all the monuments to heroes of the most devastating war in the history of humanity.
War veterans, members of youth organisations, schoolchildren and representatives of the municipal authorities will honour the memory of those who died during the Great Patriotic War by laying flowers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the monument to Marshal Zhukov, the Monument of Glory, the Mother's Grief monument and the Tragedy of Nations memorial complex at the Poklonny Hill.
