Atomically, the crystals are composed of semiconducting and metallic materials. The invention can be used to produce nanowires microchips. Thomas Sand Jespersen said the new material is a hybrid between a semiconducting nanowire and its electronic contact. According to the scientist, the invention creates a way to make a perfect transition between the nanowire and a superconductor, TASS reports.
