"Two passengers, one German and one Italian were fatally injured when window panes were smashed by waves in the saloon area," said Michalis Maratheftis, director for communications of Louis Cruises.

Maratheftis said 14 other passengers were injured and were taken to hospital when the ship sailed into Barcelona port.

He added that all passengers are being flown home.

A total of 1,350 passengers from 27 countries and a crew of 580 were on the cruise liner.

Maratheftis said the Maltese-registered "Louis Majesty" was heading from Genoa to Marseilles, France, when it ran into rough seas. He added the ship was battered by 8-metre waves; Kazinform cites Xinhua.
