Cyclone cuts power supply to Sakhalin-1’s drilling rig

YUZHNO-SAKHALINSK. January 27. KAZINFORM In the north of the island of Sakhalin a cyclone has cut power supply for a drilling rig being used to tap the Odoptu offshore oil field, Kazinform refers to Itar-Tass.

The project's operator, US company Exxon Neftegaz Limited, has said there is no risk to the personnel. A confirmation has arrived there are enough supplies of food, water and other essentials in stock.

ENL said it is maintaining close coordination with the local office of the Emergency Situations Ministry to agree a plan for action to restore energy supply to the facility.

The cyclone has raged over all central and northern areas of Sakhalin for a second day running. It has disrupted power supply to several communities. Repair work is continuing despite the bad weather, Kazinform cites Itar-Tass. See www.itar-tass.com
