"Certainly, there are penalties but we willingly embraced this kind of integration in order to create new economic space," remarked Dmitry Medvedev. "For Russia, Kazakhstan, and Belarus the creation of the Customs Union and the Single Economic Space has led to an increase in trade turnover, mutual trade turnover at that. Shipments of our merchandise and shipments of their merchandise to our markets are the goal we wanted to accomplish".

The Russian Prime Minister underlined that he was not talking about several percent but a 15-30% increase in merchandise trade.
