Customs Union, Common Economic Space and Eurasian Economic Union beneficial in integration process, Nazarbayev

ASTANA. May 30. KAZINFORM - Today in Akorda Nursultan Nazarbayev, the President of Kazakhstan, held a meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council, the press-service of the President reports.

The meeting was also attended by Alexander Lukashenko, the President of Belarus, Vladimir Putin, the President of the Russian Federation, Almazbek Atambayev, the President of the Kyrgyz Republic and Viktor Yanukovych, the President of Ukraine.

During the meeting the Board considered a number of issues related to the main aspects of integration including the activities of the Eurasian Economic Commission which are to develop mechanisms for further cooperation between the countries.

The parties discussed prospects of Kyrgyz Republic and Ukraine entry to the Customs Union (CU).

Talking to the counterparts Nursultan Nazarbayev said that these sessions allow them to keep up the pace of instruments adoption for integration and creation of the Eurasian Economic Union.

After the meeting Nursultan Nazarbayev made a statement to the mass media. The President of Kazakhstan said that the meeting had discussed current issues and prospects for CU and the Common Economic Space further development. There was also reviewed the progress made in the establishment of the Eurasian Economic Union.

Nursultan Nazarbayev noted that a number of important decisions had been made.

"Changes have been made to the regulations on the activities of the Eurasian Economic Commission for international negotiations on trade. This document will enable the CU Member States to cooperate using the Commission platform. It will expand the range of our partners in trade. This is an important step towards closer integration of our countries. Today there has been approved the concept of Coherent agricultural policy of the Customs Union and Common Economic Space Member States. There have been identified the activities for creation and development of an integrated information system of foreign and mutual trade within the CU. An agreement has also been reached relating to informational cooperation in the field of statistics. A separate unit that we have reviewed is the prospect of expanding the CU and Common Economic Space", said the President of Kazakhstan.

The Kazakh President stressed that Kyrgyzstan applied for accession to the CU.

Nursultan Nazarbayev also noted that the meeting participants were satisfied with the results of the negotiations. The next meeting will be held in October current year in Minsk and then in December in Moscow.

In addition Nursultan Nazarbayev carried out a separate joint briefing with Viktor Yanukovych, the President of Ukraine. V. Yanukovych said that the memorandum on Ukraine’s participation in the work of the CU as an observer would be signed at the CIS summit in Minsk.
