Cuba to face Kazakhstan prior to WSB season 5
HAVANA. KAZINFORM Previous winning teams, Domadores from Cuba and Astana Arlans from Kazakhstan, will meet on Sept. 9 and 10 in a "Clash of the Titans" contest in Astana, prior to the 5th Season of the World Series of Boxing (WSB) , Cuban media reported on Sunday.
In Astana, Cuban coach Rolando Acebal, confirmed that Domadores, champions of the WSB 4th Season, have not ceased training since they arrived in Kazakhstan almost one week ago.
The fight will take place in Daulet Sporting Complex in the Kazakh capital, Xinhua reports.
Domadores will try to defeat again the Kazakh team, champions of the WSB 3rd Season, as it beat Arlans 8-2 in the previous season.
But Domadores just returned from vacations and they have trained for only 17 days, including 12 days in Cuba and five in Kazakhstan.
"Our athletes have trained a bit and they are not in their best shape. Nevertheless, training sessions have been hard and especially devoted to restoring to their physical readiness," said Acebal.
The Cuban team includes ten boxers who will take part in the 2014 Central American and Caribbean Games in Mexico's eastern city of Veracruz in November, including Yosbany Veitia (52-kg category) and Erislandy Savon (91-kg), who were undefeated in eight fights.
The fights on Sept. 9 will include the 49, 56, 64, 75 and 91-kg categories, while on the next day the fights include the 52, 60, 69, 81 and more than 91-kg categories.
Last June, the Cuban team won the tough final fight of the WSB 4th Season against Azerbaijan in Baku.
