CSTO urges NATO to cooperate on mutually beneficial issues
ASTANA. April 7. KAZINFORM The seven-member Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) on Friday called on NATO to cooperate more constructively on mutually beneficial issues, and in particular, in the fight against international terrorism and drug trafficking.
The intergovernmental military alliance made the call in a statement released here, adopted in the wake of its Council of Foreign Ministers.
Apparently, no country in the world is unilaterally able to effectively counter challenges and threats, traditional or new, the statement said.
"In this connection, CSTO member states call on NATO member states to fine-tune constructive cooperation in a number of mutually beneficial areas," it read.
In particular, the CSTO is ready to cooperate with NATO in countering international terrorism and drug trafficking, in restoring stability in Afghanistan and jointly warding off natural and man-made disasters, Xinhua reports
"CSTO member states are ready for tuning interaction with NATO in other areas of mutual interest," it said.
The CSTO groups Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
