CSTO, UN discuss peacekeeping efforts in New York
MOSCOW. January 22. KAZINFORM A delegation of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) led by Deputy Secretary General of the organization Valery Semerikov is on a visit to the United Nations headquarters in New York on 21-25 January, CSTO Spokesman Vladimir Zainetdinov informed.
The CSTO delegation is holding consultations with representatives of the Department for Peacekeeping Operations of the United Nations. The consultations are held within the framework of the memorandum of understanding signed by the CSTO Secretariat and the Department for Peacekeeping Operations on 28 September 2012. The objective of the consultations is to communicate views on the major approaches of the two organizations to peacekeeping efforts and to discuss ways to expand cooperation in peacekeeping between the CSTO and the United Nations.
According to BelTA, Valery Semerikov will also hold meetings with top officials of the UN Secretariat to discuss issues related to the situation in Afghanistan, efforts to combat terrorism and extremism, joint provision of humanitarian aid to victims of hostilities and disasters.
The CSTO Deputy Secretary General is expected to meet with permanent representatives of the CSTO member states at the United Nations.
