CSTO defense ministers to discuss equipment of rapid response forces with modern weaponry

MINSK. June 6. KAZINFORM The equipment of the collective rapid response forces with contemporary and compatible weaponry, military and special hardware will be discussed at a session of the Defense Ministers Council of the Collective Security Treaty Organization in Minsk on 7 June, BelTA learned from Vladimir Zainetdinov, CSTO Press Secretary

According to BelTA, the session will be chaired by Belarusian Defense Minister Yuri Zhadobin. CSTO Secretary General Nikolai Bordiuzha will take part in the session.

Participants of the session will discuss ways to improve the effectiveness of cooperation between chiefs of general staffs, the joint chiefs of staff, the united staffs of the armed forces of the CSTO member states and the improvement of the operation of the CSTO United Staff. Draft CSTO agreements on researching military and technical cooperation, on an interstate system to catalogue supply articles of the CSTO member states, on military and economic cooperation will be discussed.

The session will also table amendments to this year's joint combat training plan for control bodies and collective security forces following the Russian Defense Ministry's initiative. The initiative suggests practicing the application of the collective rapid response forces at one of the stages of the strategic training Tsentr 2011 in September 2011. The Russian Defense Ministry suggests postponing the exercise, which is scheduled to take place in Armenia, till 2012 and time the event to the 20th anniversary of the signing of the Collective Security Treaty. The Armenian Defense Ministry has no complaints about postponing the exercise till 2012.
