Criminal investigation initiated due to mass poisoning of soldiers in Kyzylorda

ASTANA. KAZINFORM - A criminal investigation has been initiated due to the mass poisoning of soldiers in the city of Kyzylorda, the press service of the Chief Military Prosecutor's Office of Kazakhstan reported.

"April 14 Kyzylorda garrison military prosecutor's office opened a criminal case on the fact of the crime under Part 1 of Article 381 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan", the statement reads. It bears to remind that the first reports on poisoning were made on April 13. Back then, the number of soldiers hospitalized reached 47. The cause of poisoning was allegedly the poor quality of drinking water. By April 16, the number of poisoned grew to 52 people. The hospitalized personnel are receiving appropriate treatment and are under constant medical care. Their lives are not threatened. The bacteriological study was conducted on the drinking water and food in the military unit, the soldiers of which got poisoned. The works on technical checking the external water supply networks were also conducted. According to the results of microbiological studies, the water contained multiple bacteria which are likely to cause intestinal infections.
