Construction of first module of Balkhash TPP starts in Sept 2012
ASTANA. July 1. KAZINFORM The construction of infrastructure of the first module of the Balkhash Thermal Power Plant will be started this year within the State Program of Forced Industrial Innovative Development. This project will help to resolve the issue of energy deficit in the southern regions of Kazakhstan, according to pm.kz.
"In order to resolve the issues of energy deficit and to emancipate the southern region from energy dependence, I charge the Government to ensure beginning of the construction of the first module of the Balkhash TPP with the capacity of 1320 megawatt totaling 2.3 billion U.S. dollars this year," President of Kazakhstan N.Nazarbayev said in his recent Address to the Nation.
It is worth noting that the works on 8 preparatory facilities totaling 9.1 billion tenge are conducted at the Balkhash TPP since 2010.
Presently, construction and reconstruction of a sluice, drinking water supply system, sewerage and railway siding is underway there.
As "SamrukEnergo" JSC informs, the process of designing of the first module will be started in July 2012 and the construction of the first stage starts as early as September 2012.
Besides, the construction of the main facilities of the first module will start after the project is approved in May-June 2013. The capacity of the first stage of the Balkhash TPP is expected to make 1320 megawatt. The construction of the first stage will last 60 months.
Innovative energy efficient technologies such as modern gas cleaning equipment, water treating membrane technologies, integrated automotive management system, flaring of fuel in pulverized-coal fired boilers, etc. will be used during construction of the Balkhash TPP and its infrastructure.
The project also has social importance as long as 3500-5500 new jobs are to be created during its implementation.
As earlier reported, the launch of the first block of the Balkhash TPP is scheduled for the 4th quarter of 2017, the second block - for the 2nd quarter of 2018. The design capacity of the first module of the Balkhash TPP is planned to be reached in the 3rd quarter of 2018.
Implementation of the project on construction of the Balkhash TPP will create a necessary power reserve, increase reliability of energy supply and allow to eliminate the deficit of energy in south Kazakhstan.
