Conference dedicated to 20th anniversary of Copenhagen Document
COPENHAGEN. June 12. KAZINFORM /Bela Kudaibergenova/ Kazakhstan has advanced the initiatives in the fields of human rights and elections at the XX jubilee conference of the OSCE in Copenhagen.
Representatives of almost all 56 member states took part in the event. The Kazakh side was represented by the People's Assembly of Kazakhstan, Majilis and Senate of the Parliament, nonogovernmental and public organizations.
Co-chairmen of the conference were OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Secretary of State-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Kanat Saudabayev and Vice Prime Minister-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Denmark Lene Espersen.
Kazakhstan's chairmanship in the OSCE is very important for further implementation of the Copenhagen Human Rights Document, since it became an indicator of the serious geopolitical shift, which means that in the 21st century democratic values do not depend on the borders of countries and continents.
The participants discussed such issues as fair elections, fair trial, freedom of speech, religion, movement, the rule of law. A number of documents were signed. Several issues will be included in the agenda of the 2010 OSCE Summit in Astana.
