Civil war in Kyrgyzstan prevented through joint efforts of Kazakh, U.S. and Russian Presidents: K.Saudabayev
ALMATY. May 14. KAZINFORM /Daniyar Sikhimbayev/ "The importance of provision of the regional security was accentuated by the tragic events in Kyrgyzstan at the beginning of April this year that plunged the country deep into turmoil, crisis and anarchy. This was a serious test for both Kazakhstan's chairmanship and the OSCE as a whole", OSCE Chairman-in-office, Kazakh Secretary of State - Foreign Minister Kanat Saudabayev has said today at the opening ceremony of the Trans-Asian Parliamentary Forum "Eurasian Dimension of the OSCE".
"In these critical circumstances our Organization demonstrated its importance and efficiency. Under the central role of the OSCE the world community applied political measures on handling the crisis. In this regard, we are grateful to the UN Secretary General, the leadership of the European Union and the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly for rapid sending of their envoys to Kyrgyzstan", K.Saudabayev said.
The Kazakh Foreign Minister noted that through the joint efforts of Presidents Nursultan Nazarbayev, Barack Obama and Dmitri Medvedev the countries managed to avoid escalation of the violence and prevent civil war. "As the results, today the situation in Kyrgyzstan returns to the legal field, the public order and legitimacy are provided. The OSCE keeps on assisting to Kyrgyzstan to overcome the crisis. EUR 200 thousand were allocated from the OSCE Reserve Fund for provision of the public order and security, strengthening of the supremacy of law and democracy. Kazakhstan renders necessary humanitarian and economic assistance as well", K.Saudabayev said.
