Citizens of Kazakhstan cast their votes in Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan

Kazakhstani nationals in Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan are casting their votes in the referendum on the draft of new Constitution, Qazinform News Agency reports.

The polling stations were opened at the Kazakh embassies in Bishkek and Dushanbe.

According to Aidar Shalbayev, Chairman of the Territorial Referendum Commission at the Kazakh Embassy in Dushanbe, more than 113 Kazakhstanis permanently and temporarily residing in Tajikistan, have been included in the voters’ list. “Members of the Commission will provide necessary consultative assistance to the voters throughout the day,” said Shalbayev.

Meanwhile, 300 Kazakh citizens residing or staying in Kyrgyzstan for private, official, educational, business, and tourist purposes, have been included in the voters’ list. Most of them are registered with the consulate. An international observer from the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly and media representatives are working at the polling station in the Kazakh Embassy in Bishkek.

Voting began at 07:00 am and will last until 08:00 pm local time, after which ballots will be counted.

Earlier, Qazinform reported that as for 14:00, voter turnout in the referendum exceeded 50%.
