CIS states unite efforts in combating corruption

The Majilis of the Kazakh Parliament has ratified the CIS Agreement on Cooperation in Combating Corruption, Kazinform News Agency reports.

According to First Deputy Chairman of the Anti-Corruption Agency Ulan Sarkulov, the document was signed by Armenia, Belarus, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Kazakhstan on October 14, 2022, in Astana.

“The goal of the agreement is to expand cooperation in the following areas: assistance in corruption-related crime cases, conducting joint operational and investigative activities, detention and extradition of persons committing corruption crimes, creation and use of special information systems. Another important area of ​​cooperation is the interaction in the search and recovery of proceeds from corruption,” said Sarkulov.

The document provides for other measures of cooperation such as upgrading personnel qualification, exchange of experience in legal regulation in the field of combating corruption, holding conferences, workshops and meetings.

Earlier, Chairman of the Anti-Corruption Agency Askhat Zhumagali reported to the President that 1.12 trillion tenge in assets and cash has been surrendered to the state, including 486.5 billion tenge last year, since 2022.
