CIS secret services set to prevent use of flash mobs in terrorism
ODINTSOVO. February 21. KAZINFORM Special services in former Soviet republics will step up efforts to counter cyber terror and prevent the use of flash mobs in terrorism, a senior official said on Monday; Kazinform refers to RIA Novosti.
Flash mobs are events organized via online social networks when people gather in a certain place wearing the same clothes, doing a group activity, or shouting slogans and then quickly leave.
"Cyber space has become the main base for promoting extremist ideas, urging violence and recruiting new members for terrorist groups," said Andrei Novikov, the head of the anti-terrorist center of the nine former Soviet republics, also known as the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).
Speaking at a meeting of CIS special service chiefs, Novikov called on special services to track down attempts to involve computer and IT specialists in terrorist and extremist activities.
