CIS prime ministers to adopt framework nuclear cooperation program in Minsk
MINSK. May 13. KAZINFORM Heads of the CIS governments are planning to gather in Minsk on 19 May to adopt a framework program of cooperation in the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Andrei Savinykh told reporters on 12 May; Kazinform refers to BelTA.
The session of the Council of the CIS Prime Ministers will consider the draft treaty on the Free Trade Area, which was proposed by the Russian Federation. The treaty is expected to fix the functioning exemptions from the free trade regime and commitments not to extend their list and start negotiations on a gradual abolition of export duties. "The Belarusian side proceeds from the point, that the adoption of the treaty should, first of all, facilitate the simplification of trade regime between the CIS nations by the elimination and prompt abolition of trade barriers," Andrei Savinykh said.
The prime ministers of the CIS are set to discuss the subject matter of the interstate program of innovation cooperation till 2020 that was initiated by Belarus. The program will become a basic document in the CIS dealing with innovations development and their practical application in economy.
Another key point on the session's agenda is the adoption of a framework program of cooperation in the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes. "The program creates great opportunities to share experience in NPP maintenance, personnel training, and safe nuclear technologies development. The program is of special importance for Belarus, as the country is constructing its own nuclear plant.
The prime ministers will also discuss the preparation for the interstate exhibition dedicated to the 20th anniversary of CIS, which will be held on 28 June - 3 July in Moscow. On 3 July (Belarus' Independence Day) the exhibition will see the Day of Belarus with an extended cultural and business program; Kazinform cites BelTA.
