CIS observers start monitoring election in Turkmenistan
MINSK. January 27. KAZINFORM The CIS observation team has started monitoring the presidential election in Turkmenistan, BelTA learnt from the main office of the observation team.
The team consists of 60 observers from Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly, the Union State Parliamentary Assembly, and the CIS Executive Committee.
The mission will be led by Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee - CIS Executive Secretary Sergei Lebedev whose candidacy was approved by the Council of Permanent Plenipotentiary Representatives of the CIS to the charter bodies and other bodies of the CIS, BelTA reports.
The observation team will work independently in accordance with the electoral law of Turkmenistan having full understanding that the election is a domestic matter of the country. The mission is to help hold a free and democratic election.
