CIS Interparliamentary Assembly to consider anti-nuclear initiatives of Kazakh President

ASTANA. November 25. KAZINFORM - Majilis of Kazakhstan and the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly on November 29 in St. Petersburg are organizing an international conference on "Nuclear safety in the modern world. The role of parliamentarians in the process of nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation". This has been stated today at a press briefing by the spokesman of the service of central communications Altai Abibullayev.

According to him, the conference will be attended by a delegation of Kazakh parliamentarians headed by Majilis Chairman Nurlan Nigmatulin. The event will also be attended by Senate Speaker Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev.

"We will focus on anti-nuclear initiatives of the President of Kazakhstan and, above all, on his global project called "ATOM". Kazakh parliamentarians together with foreign colleagues will discuss the possibilities of international parliamentary community in ensuring nuclear safety", said A.Abibullayev.

Parliamentarians also intend to develop specific recommendations for the effective implementation of the principles of disarmament and non-proliferation of nuclear weapons.

In addition, on November 28-29 Kazakhstan Senate's delegation headed by Speaker Mr.Tokayev will be visiting St. Petersburg to participate in the activities of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly, the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly and the EEC.
