CIS border security to be discussed at Yerevan meeting
MINSK. October 7. KAZINFORM The Council of Border Troops Commanders is expected to meet in Yerevan on 7-8 October to discuss the situation at the CIS external border, BelTA learnt from the press service of the CIS Executive Committee.
About 10 issues will be on the agenda of the meeting including the preliminary review of joint operations and special preventive measures of this year, the development of an automated system of information operational sharing, draft documents regulating the activity of the Council.
The meeting participants are expected to discuss material and technical assistance for the border services of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, research conducted by the Council, and a draft provision on a regular session of the heads of the CIS task forces promoting cooperation against crimes.
Accoridng to BelTA, Founded on 6 July 1992, the Council of Border Troops Commanders coordinates interstate cooperation in border security. The Council develops conceptual approaches to safeguarding the borders and economic zones in the CIS taking into account the interests of its member states, draft the relevant proposals and documents, coordinates the activity of the CIS border troops.
The Council's top priority is to protect the territory of the Commonwealth from any kinds of terrorist actions, prevent the import of drugs, weapons and ammunition, the entry of illegal migrants, monitor the preservation of water biological reserves. The Council adopts measures aimed at an adequate response to the border security risks in the CIS.
