Cigarettes and alcohol to become more expensive in Kazakhstan

ASTANA. October 9. KAZINFORM - Majilis of the Kazakh Parliament has approved the first reading of draft law "On amendments and additions to some legislative acts of the Republic of Kazakhstan on issues of taxation".

"The bill raises issues of tax policy and tax administration. To increase the economic return of the tax system the bill contains provisions to increase rates on personal property, land and vehicles", said the Minister of Economy and Budget Planning Erbolat Dossaev introducing the document.

The Minister noted that  "Nur Otan" faction made a proposal to change the tax rates on personal property and vehicles, and these proposals have been supported.

In addition, in order to discourage consumption by the population of socially harmful goods, it envisages increasing excise taxes on alcohol and tobacco products .

As previously reported, provided that the rates of excise duties on cigarettes will have risen for three years by 30 percent annually. Excise taxes on strong alcohol products within three years will have grown from 500 tenge to 1,600 tenge per liter of alcohol.
