Christian Bale to play Steve Jobs in biopic
HOLLYWOOD. KAZINFORM - Christian Bale is the latest star rumoured to be in negotiations to play Apple co-founder Steve Jobs in a new biopic.
British director Danny Boyle, who made Slumdog Millionaire and Trainspotting, is directing the film which has a screenplay written by Aaron Sorkin. Sorkin won an Oscar in 2011 for writing The Social Network. The new film is based on a biography by Walter Isaacson called Steve Jobs. The as-yet-unnamed film has struggled to get off the ground, with Leonardo DiCaprio in negotiations for the lead role at one point, Sky news reported. Gone Girl director David Fincher was also reported to be directing before Boyle committed to the project. British actor Bale has most recently starred in American Hustle and is due to voice Bagheera in Warner Bros' Jungle Book: Origins film. Sorkin has said the biopic will have just three scenes. He told Newsweek and the Daily Beast: "Each of these three scenes is going to take place before a product launch - backstage before a product launch. "The first one being the Mac; and the second one being NeXT, after he had left Apple; and the third one being the iPod." Sony acquired the rights for the film after Jobs' death in 2011. It is not known when production is due to begin but there is concern among some in the industry that the film will not have mass appeal as fascination with Jobs wanes. Ashton Kutcher played the Apple co-founder in the film Jobs last year.
