Chingis Arinov: Firefighting efforts underway to extinguish fires in Bayanaul

Minister of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Chingis Arinov, addressed the situation with steppe fires in the Pavlodar and Karaganda regions at the Government’s meeting on Tuesday. He stated that all necessary efforts had been underway, Kazinform News Agency reports.

The minister explained that dry wood caught fire in the Karkaraly district and near Bayanaul National Park on October 6.

“Additionally, firefighting crews of Abai and other regions are involved [in the firefighting efforts]. 18 residents have been immediately evacuated to a neighboring village. Currently, the steppe fire in the Pavlodar region is completely localized. We anticipate achieving the same result in the Karaganda region,” he said.

Chingis Arinov highlighted that the fire covered approximately 500 ha in the Zhitikara district of the Kostanay region, situated within the territory of the Russian Federation. Thanks to the prompt implementation of an effective response plan, the fire was extinguished successfully.

He stated that the situation is currently stable.

Earlier it was reported that a steppe fire had broken out in the Karaganda region that spread to the Pavlodar region on October 6. The fire burnt approximately 3,000 ha and was put out by 02:30 pm.

33-year-old firefighter Khali Khairat from Saran town, Karaganda region, died during the steppe fire in Karkaraly district on Sunday.
