Chiefs of CIS border services to meet in Odessa
MINSK. May 16. KAZINFORM The 69th session of the Council of Border Guard Commanders will take place in Odessa, Russia on 16 May, the press service of the CIS Executive Committee reported, according to BelTA.
The agenda of the meeting includes more than ten items. The heads of border guard agencies are expected to discuss matters concerning the enhancement of border security at the external borders of the Commonwealth of Independent States, preparations for and the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, joint research projects, organization of coordinated timely escorts for international trains that pass via the CIS states.
Practical interaction of the Council's coordinating service with the Secretariat of the Collective Security Treaty Organization will be discussed. Members of the Council of Border Guard Commanders also intend to discuss the situation at the external borders and urgent matters of cooperation between the border service agencies of the CIS states. They will sum up results of the third regional conference of the heads of border guard agencies of the CIS states in Central Asia. They will also consider progress in preparing and carrying out joint special border operations and preventive measures in 2013-2014. Experience of ensuring border security during large international sport and cultural events will be shared.
The Council of Border Guard Commanders was set up in 1992. It works out and reviews conceptual approaches to securing the external borders and economic zones taking into account interests of all the CIS member states. The Council coordinates efforts of border troops, prepares proposals and draft documents, considers draft agreements on border matters for the Heads of State Council or the Heads of Government Council of the Commonwealth of Independent States to make decisions. The Council of Border Guard Commanders discusses and works out proposals for operative and mobilization training, retraining of officer personnel, military science research, technical support and rear services support for the border troops of the CIS states.
