Chief of EC Office in Kazakhstan N. Jousten visits Shymkent

SHYMKENT. November 30. KAZINFORM  /Tatyana Pylayeva/  Head of the Office of the European Commission in Kazakhstan Norbert Jousten is paying an official visit to Shymkent today. He met with Akim of the South Kazakhstan oblast Askar Myrzakhmetov to discuss the results of implementation of three projects financed by the EC. Within the visit  N. Jousten opened a European Corner at the M. Auezov South Kazakhstan State University.

"This work has been carried out since 2008. In this period we have opened European Corners in 15 regions of Kazakhstan in order to inform Kazakhstanis of the activity and history of the European Union, EC Office, current projects and educational programs of the EU", N. Jousten said. The European Corner is an information stand with various publications and printed issues regarding the EU activity. Besides, the visitors will interested in internet resources containing information about the EU work.

Due to the support of the EU three non-governmental organizations of the oblast implement projects on Development of democratic processes through expansion of civil institutes' participation and promotion of gender equality policy, Provision of women's access to justice and Protection of freedom of word and press in South Kazakhstan through improvement of access to internet and public monitoring. At a meeting with NGOs Norbert Jousten expressed high appreciation with the course of realization of the projects. "Kazakhstan and EU have the same problems therefore implementation of these projects is of importance for us too. We will continue rendering help to the Kazakh NGOs in  solution of social and other urgent problems of society", he said.
