Central Asian authorities combating drug trafficking held meeting in Brussels

BRUSSELS. December 14. KAZINFORM /Dimash Syzdykov/ A coordination meeting of members of the law-enforcement authorities of Central Asian states in the field of countering illegal drug trafficking was held in the NATO headquarters in Brussels. Chairman of the Kazakh Committee on counterdrug and illegal drug trafficking control of the Kazakh Ministry of Internal Affairs Zhanat Suleimenov and Head of the National Security Committee Talgat Zhanayev took part in the meeting.

As the Chairman of the National Security Committee said, the measures on combating drug traffic and prevention of drug abuse taken within the Program on drug abuse and drug trafficking for 2009-2011 as well as strengthening of south border of the country, anti-drug legislation and reduction of migration flows allowed to stabilize the situation in Kazakhstan.

In particular, the volumes of drug smuggling were reduced. The number of foreigners arrested for drug crimes in Kazakhstan decreases as well. Decreasing trend in the percentage of registered drug users exists.

Members of departments on combat drug trafficking from Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan took part in the meeting as well.
