Camera trap captures Turkistan lynx in Zhongar-Alatau National Park
A camera trap in the Zhongar-Alatau State National Nature Park has recorded one of Kazakhstan's rarest predators - the Turkistan lynx, Qazinform News Agency correspondent reports.
Unique footage was obtained during wildlife monitoring, which park specialists are conducting using a network of stationary camera traps. The animal approached the equipment and paused directly in front of the lens, providing an exceptionally clear and detailed visual capture.
Listed as an endangered and declining species in Kazakhstan's Red Book, the elusive Turkistan lynx has been monitored using fixed camera traps in the Zhongar-Alatau National Park since 2020.
According to specialists, 70 to 80 Turkistan lynx are currently registered within the national park. Regularly capturing the animals with camera traps allows scientists to track their population size, movement routes, and status without interfering with their natural habitat.
Earlier, Qazinform reported wolverine and rare animals had been spotted in Kazakhstan’s Katon-Karagai National Park.
