Bosnian Serb sentenced to 31 prison years for genocide role
BELGRADE. January 26. KAZINFORM The Appellate Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) on Wednesday upheld the 31-year prison sentence of Radomir Vukovic for his role in the execution of more than 1,000 captured soldiers after the fall of Srebrenica in 1995; Kazinform refers to Xinhua.
The Court upheld a previous ruling that saw Vukovic and Zoran Tomic, both former members of the Bosnian Serb special police, convicted of aiding and abetting genocide, according to Radio Sarajevo.
The Appellate Court, however, released Tomic citing lack of "hard evidence."
In July of 1995, Srebrenica, designated a safe haven by the UN, was overrun by Bosnian Serb forces. In the aftermath, an estimated 7,000 to 8,000 men and boys were killed. This was the worst massacre during the civil conflict that engulfed BiH with the breakup of Yugoslavia in the 1990s; Kazinform cites Xinhua.
