The police say the explosion went off on Sunday evening. On searching the temple's area, the police found another explosive device with a clockwork mechanism, which did not go off.

Local authorities fear the incident may cause an outbreak of sectarian violence in Indonesia, the largest Muslim country in the world with a population of over 251 million people, of whom 87 percent are followers of Islam, and the share of Buddhists is under one percent, Itar-Tass reports.
