Bird strike caused emergency landing of Boeing-737 at Karaganda airport - preliminary version

KARAGANDA. June 17. KAZINFORM /Valentina Yelizarova/ Boeing 737 flying to Antalya made an emergency landing at the airport of Karaganda today in the morning. The incident took place as a bird flew into the engine. Vladimir Yevdokimov, a representative of Skat Airlines informed journalists about the cause of the incident in an interview.

"The aircraft was in a good condition and passed all inspections required", V. Yevdokimov said. "The remains of the bird were found in the engine", he added.

Chief of the organization of transportation of Sary Arka Airport Sergey Mashukov claims that the incident occurred outside the zone of airport responsibility. "As soon as the black box is decoded we will know the altitude and details of the incident", he said.

The Civil Aviation Committee of the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Kazakhstan established a special commission to investigate the incident.

The passengers of the aborted flight are in the customs area of the Sary Arka Airport waiting to continue their trips. A new aircraft is to come today from Astana.

Boeing-737 left for Antalya (Turkey) at 06:32 a.m. today. After an hour in the air a problem in the right engine of the plane was detected and the pilot took a decision to make an emergency landing. 140 passengers, 5 crew members were aboard. No injuries were reported.

Rescue team, firefighting services and ambulances were ready to help if needed in the airfield.
