Belarus, Turkmenistan to set up business council for economic cooperation
ASHGABAD. April 29. KAZINFORM Belarus and Turkmenistan intend to set up a business council for economic cooperation, said Turkmenistan President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov during talks with President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko on 28 April.
According to BelTA, at present the operation of the Belarusian-Turkmen intergovernmental commission for economic cooperation is productive. According to the Turkmen side, the establishment of the business council will allow enhancing trade and economic cooperation. The council may include representatives of chambers of commerce of the two countries, business structures, businessmen and other interested persons.
The President of Turkmenistan pointed out an increase in the bilateral trade. Over the last five years Belarus-Turkmenistan trade has doubled. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said he was confident the trend would continue. The two countries are interested in finding new avenues of cooperation and tapping into the bilateral potential.
The President of Turkmenistan remarked that there is productive partnership between Belarus and Turkmenistan. The partnership relies on long-term mutual profits. There are 13 companies with a share of Belarusian capital in Turkmenistan. Ten investment projects worth over $1 billion are being implemented.
Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov confirmed that Turkmenistan intends to continue buying Belarusian transportation, construction materials, mechanical engineering products and other merchandise. The Turkmen side is also interested in studying Belarusian practices in processing, food industries and other areas.
Speaking about cooperation in the international arena, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov stressed that Belarus is a friend and an important partner in politics. He said that views of the two countries on main matters concerning joint efforts to enhance international peace, security, counteract modern challenges coincide.
The President of Turkmenistan offered his condolence in connection with the terrorist attack in Minsk's metro.
