Belarus to take maximum advantage of SES
MINSK. February 23. KAZINFORM Belarus plans to take maximum advantage of the Single Economic Space (SES) to develop its transport and logistics system, Transport and Communications Minister Ivan Shcherbo said in the recent phone-in in the ministry.
"As Transport and Communications Minister, I see great prospects in coordinated development of the transport and logistics potential of the Single Economic Space and Belarus, in particular," Ivan Shcherbo said. In his words, there are plans to create additional conditions for brand new and progressive delivery schemes.
According to BelTA, freight from Western Europe can be delivered to Belarus by automobiles of high ecological parameters, by rail or air. "Then we will be able to give Kazakhs, Russians and Belarusians an opportunity to deliver freight across the whole customs area by transport vehicles produced on the SES territory. These are mainly the equipment made at the Minsk Automobile Plant. There is a well-developed maintenance network for Belarusian trucks on the post-Soviet area. Thus, Belarus might turn in to a so-called "dry port," the minister said.
"Once Belarus starts opening big transport and logistics centers, forwarders from all European countries will head here. Thus, we look to the future with optimism and plan to increase the export of transportation services by more than 18% this year alone," Ivan Shcherbo added.
