Belarus parliament to ratify Customs Union treaty against money laundering on 8 October
MINSK. October 6. KAZINFORM The treaty on counteracting the legalization (laundering) of revenues acquired via criminal means and on counteracting terrorism financing during the transportation of money or monetary instruments across the Customs Union border is expected to be ratified by House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus on 8 October.
The information was released by Vladimir Kuzhanov, Deputy Chairman of the International Affairs and CIS Relations Commission of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus.
BelTA has learned that the Russian and Kazakh sides have already ratified the document or are about to. Once the document is ratified in Belarus, it will come into effect. So, the treaty is expected to come into effect in the near future, BelTA reports.
The MP said that before the Customs Union was set up, the Belarusian customs service was busy counteracting illegal money transportation within borders of the country. In the Customs Union the three countries should stop "the illegal transportation of dirty money that can be used for terrorism and other dreadful actions".
The eleventh session is the final one for the fourth-convocation House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus. The fifth-convocation MPs will begin their first session on 18 October. Fourth-convocation MPs constitute 18% of the newly elected parliamentarians.
