Belarus-initiated alliance for communication satellite project
MINSK. August 8. KAZINFORM Belarus is going to create a communication satellite in an alliance with other countries, First Vice Premier of Belarus Vladimir Semashko told media as he visited the Belarusian company OAO Peleng on 7 August.
According to BelTA, the official remarked Belarus intends to accomplish various tasks in the outer space. The first Belarusian satellite will be used for the remote sensing of the Earth. There is a need to create various communication systems in the outer space. "Therefore, the possibility of creating such a satellite in Belarus is being discussed. Understandably, we are not going to do it from scratch. It should be done in an alliance".
Vladimir Semashko said the Russian company Roscosmos is interested in integration with Belarusian OAO Peleng and in bolstering cooperation with the latter. The First Vice Premier did not specify which countries Belarus may cooperate with in designing the communication satellite.
OAO Peleng is a Belarusian cutting-edge optoelectronics design company. It is part of the State Defense Industries Committee of Belarus. The company emerged initially as the central design bureau Peleng founded via the re-organization of the design department of S.I. Vavilov Minsk Mechanical Plant (part of BelOMO). The design bureau was turned into OAO Peleng in 1994. OAO Peleng focuses on optoelectronics R&D for a wide range of applications. The company offers photo equipment for commercial remote sensing satellites as well as systems to compress, process, and store data.
