Batumi holds Conference on Trade and Development and Caucasus transit corridor

BAKU-TBILISI. June 24. KAZINFORM — In Batumi starts the 3rd Regional Conference relating to the Trade and Caucasus transit corridor which is supported by the Ministry of Economy of Georgia, Revenue Services, the Department of Justice, the Economic Commission for Europe and the United States Agency for International Development and the International Commission of rail transport.

The two-day conference is attended by representatives of ministries, the customs, transportation agencies, railroads and sea ports of Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Armenia as well as international organizations.

The meeting will discuss promotion of regional trade and introduction of international standards in the field of transport and logistics.

The event targets at increasing knowledge of Caucasus transit corridor, evaluation of work progress on the principle of "one window".

The agenda of the day is opening of a representative office of the international organization of Georgia called Supply Chain Council. Besides , under consideration are also multi-modal land, rail and sea transport routes in TRACECA (Europe-Caucasus-Asia) transport corridor .

TRACECA is an international program of cooperation in the field of transport between EU and its partner countries in Eastern Europe, South Caucasus and Central Asia. The organization has a permanent secretariat in Baku.

Currently, the TRACECA member countries are Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, Moldova, Romania, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Ukraine and Iran.
