Average Kazakh adult drinks 11 liters of vodka a year - Statistics

ASTANA. KAZINFORM - Kazakhstan ranks 34 among 188 countries of the world consuming alcohol, this has been stated by Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Finance Bakhyt Sultanov at the plenary session of the Majilis held by House Speaker Kabibulla Dzhakupov, who presented the draft law on state regulation of production and turnover of ethyl alcohol and alcoholic beverages.

"Average Kazakh citizen annually consumes about 5.5 liters of pure ethyl alcohol or about 11 liters of vodka. Kazakhstan is in the first place by alcohol abuse in Central Asia", B. Sultanov said. In this regard, the Head of State has given a number of instructions to create the conditions for the reduction of alcohol consumption. According to the Finance Minister, the bill provides for restriction of time and places for selling alcoholic beverages, as well as the introduction of innovative methods for production control and the measures to reduce the shadow turnover.
