Australian airline resumes flights to Europe
SYDNEY. April 21. KAZINFORM Qantas has announced it will resume flying, with two planes out of London and five from Asia on Wednesday night following the reopening of European airspace, Kazinform refers to Xinhua.
Qantas Chief Executive Alan Joyce made the announcement in a speech at a business lunch in Sydney.
"Qantas welcomes the opening of airspace and we will resume flights out of the U.K. to Australia today and from Asia to London and Frankfurt," he said.
Joyce estimated it would take two to three weeks to clear the current backlog of passengers, after a volcanic eruption in Iceland last week caused the closure of airports across Europe and grounded millions of travelers worldwide.
From Thursday, Qantas will resume its normal scheduled services from Australia to Europe, with three flights leaving Sydney for London and two flights departing from Melbourne - one for London and one for Frankfurt. Customers booked on those flights are confirmed for travel, Qantas noted, Kazinform cites Xinhua. See www.xinhuanet.com
