At least two dozen passengers killed in ferry accident in Myanmar
YANGON. October 7. KAZINFORM At least two dozen passengers were killed and many others missing in a ferry accident in Myanmar, according to sources with the Ayeyawady region on Thursday, Kazinform refers to Xinhua.
However, the Authorities has not confirmed the figure yet.
The overloaded ferry capsized in a river near Laputta township in the Ayeyawady Delta, 160km southwest of Yangon, on Wednesday morning, the sources said.
The passengers on the ferry included many school children and teachers traveling to watch a football match.
After the incident happened, the rescue operation started and there are still many people missing.
The Ayeyawady Delta was the area that suffered worst when Cyclone Nargis hit southern Myanmar in May 2008. The catastrophic storm killed around 138,000 people, Kazinform cites Xinhua. See www.xinhuanet.com
